Fried Bananas In Cardamom Caramel Sauce

Oh yeah! Innocent looking bananas in a cunning attempt to divert attention from the devilish caramel sauce and ice cream. But the eye soon wanders to that pool of creamy deliciousness and the slowly melting scoop of ice cream.

Mmm. Better devour this wicked treat straight away.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

2 bananas (not too ripe), sliced in half lengthwise

3 tbsp butter

½ cup whipping cream

¼ cup natural cane sugar

Large dash ground cardamom

2 scoops vanilla ice cream (optional devilishness)

1. In a small frying or saute pan, over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of the butter. Add the sliced bananas and fry in the butter for 1 ½ – 2 minutes per side – until lightly browned, but not too soft.

2. Remove the bananas to two small plates.

3. Add the remaining 2 tbsp butter to the pan you fried the bananas in, and melt it. Add the cream, sugar, and cardamom. Simmer and stir continually for 2 – 3 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.

4. Pour the sauce onto the plate with the bananas. Float a scoop of ice cream in the sauce. Drizzle more sauce over the ice cream and bananas.

Now what you have is a fantastic caramelly sauce puddling across the plate, and dripping over the bananas and ice cream. It has this tiny, mysterious hint of cardamom, and it glides devilishly across your tongue. The bananas are just the perfect softness, with a slightly caramelized exterior. However, that ice cream is melting rapidly, so quit admiring it and start eating.
